ORIGIN OF VINICULTURE

The Armenian terroire is one of the most ancient cradles of grapes and wine, the testament of which is the wine production site discovered as a result of archaeological excavations of the Areni Cave. This site has a history of more than 6100 years. In the same cave, the oldest leather shoe was found Archaeologists discovered press for wine production, vessels for fermentation and storing the wine, bawls for drinking and old dried vines, skins and seeds.
 

Vayots Dzor Province:Territory  is 2308 sq.km. Altitude is from 850 m to 3.522 m. Climate is dry. The main grape varieties are Areni, Khatun Kharji, Tozot(dusty), Voskehat (golden grain).

Ararat Province: Territory is 2096 sq km. The lowest point is at the source of river Araks at 801 meters to the highest point, which is Spitakasar mountain summit at 3.555 meters. The main grape varieties are Kakhet,Nerkarat,Armenian Muscat.


Day 1: Arrival.
Transfer to hotel.

Day 2: YEREVAN/EREBUNI MUSEUM/ ,,ARARAT,, BRANDY
Enjoy glorious views of Mount Ararat on your way to the medieval monastery of Khor Virap. Uncover the secrets of the 6.000 years old Areni-1 cave before proceeding to the unique Noravank monastery surrounded by red cliffs in the gorge of river Arpa.
Overnight in Yerevan.

Day 3:
 Vayots Dzor Province - Areni Cave - Noravank Monastery
Drive to Vatots Dzor Province.Visit to Areni 1 Cave. Next stop at Noravank Monastery(9-14c), the masterpiece of master Momik. Visit to Trinity Winery established in 2009 Next stop at Old Bridge winery. Tastings and meetings with winemakers.
Overnight in Areni.


Day 4: Ararat Province - Yerevan
Morning free. Visit to Hin Areni Winery. Drive to Yerevan, on the way stop at Tushpa winery in Ararat Province. Wine tastings and tours in the wineries.Evening free. Enjoy other wine tastings in “In Vino” famous wine bar.
Overnight in Yerevan.


DAY 5:  Departure
Transfer to the airport.

FOOT OF ARAGATS 
3 nights / 4 days

Aragatsotn Provice: Territory  is 2753 sq km, which occupies the northwestern part of this province from 950-4090 meters absolute heights. The greater part of the surface area is comprised of young volcanic lavas of various types and natures. The main grape varieties are Karmrahyut(redjiuce), Voskehat(goldengrain), Rkatziteli.

Armavir Province: Territory is 1242 sq km, which is located on 800-100 meters altitude. The soil is desert –like and volcanic(tuff,basalt).The main grape varieties are Haghtanak(victory),Nerkarat(dyerich),Kangun(steadfast).

DAY 2: Yerevan - 
Erebuni Museum - ,,ARARAT,, Brandy
The tour starts with city tour of Yerevan. Visit to Erebuni Museum and fortress . Next visit to the legendary Armenian ARARAT brandy.Tour of the factory and brandy tasting.Evening free, possibility to discover some varieties of Armenian wines in wine bar.
Overnight in Yerevan.


DAY 3: Aragatsotn Provice - Amberd - Yerevan
The tour starts with the visit of Amberd fortress and castle (10-13th cc) .Visit to Armenia Winery and Wine Museum- Armenia Wine is a family owned company. Next visit to Van Ardi Winery.

Overnight in Yerevan.

DAY 4: Aragatsotn Provice - Wineries
Morning free.Possibility to visit to Vernissage-open souvenir market in Yerevan.
Drive to Aragatsotn Province . Visit to Voskevaz Winery, established in 1932. Next visit is to ArmAs Golden Grape winery, founded in 2007 by Aslanian family. Evening free. Enjoy other wine tastings in “In Vino” famous wine bar.
Overnight in Yerevan.


DAY 5: Armavir Province - Echmiadzin Cathedral
In the morning drive to Echmiadzin. Drive to the biggest winery of Armenia “Tierras Armenia”  Karas. Tour and tasting of the wines.
Overnight in Yerevan.

DAY 2: Yerevan - Erebuni Museum - ,,ARARAT,, Brandy
The tour starts with city tour of Yerevan.Visit to Erebuni Museum and fortress ,which stands at the foot of the Arin Berd hill, on top of which the Urartian Fortress Erebuni has stood since 782 BCE. Next visit to the legendary Armenian ARARAT brandy, which is one of the symbols of Armenia, an integral part of its historical and cultural heritage. DAY 3: Vayots Dzor - Areni Cave - Noravank Monastery - Ararat Province

Drive to Vatots Dzor Province.Visit to Areni 1 Cave. Next stop at Noravank Monastery(9-14c), the masterpiece of master Momik. Visit to Trinity Winery established in 2009 in Aghavnadzor village close to Areni Cave. Trinity Wines are filled with traditions, legends and faith. Next stop at Old Bridge winery. Tastings and meetings with winemakers. Drive to Yerevan, on the way stop at Tushpa winery in Ararat Province.

The tour starts with the visit of Amberd fortress and castle (10-13th cc) which was the familial estate of the Pahlavouni princes. Visit to Armenia Winery and Wine Museum- Armenia Wine is a family owned company. Beginning with the plantation of vineyards in 2006, the winery was built two years later in 2008. Next visit to Van Ardi Winery. Tastings and meeting with winemakers. Next visit is to ArmAs Golden Grape winery, founded in 2007 by Aslanian family. 
Overnight in Yerevan.


DAY 5: Armavir Province - Echmiadzin Cathedral
In the morning drive to Echmiadzin. Drive to the biggest winery of Armenia “Tierras Armenia”  Karas. Tour and tasting of the wines.

DAY 6: Free Day or Optional Cultural Visits
Free Day or optional cultural visits to Garni-the heathen temple of Garni is the only surviving monument of the Hellenistic period in Armenia. Geghard-According to the information of Armenian historians as early as in the 4th c there already was a monastery called Ayrivank (the cave monastery) in this inaccessible corner of the Azat ravine. Later the monastery was renamed Geghard which meant "spear". Or Visit to Noy Brandy and Wine Factory is situated in one of the most picturesque places of Yerevan, in Hrazdan gorge, on the territory of the former Eriwan fortress .

WINE ORIGINS (GEORGIA/ARMENIA)
6 nights / 7 days
 

Georgia is considered to be one of the oldest homelands of viticulture in the world. It is proved that wine-making in Georgia has been practiced 8000 years ago. From 4000 BC Georgians were cultivating grapes and burying clay vessels, “kvevri”, in which to store their wine ready for serving at perfect ground temperature. Georgian ancient traditional wine-making method using the “Kvevri” clay jars is included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists.

DAY 1: Arrival in Tbilisi.
Arrive in Tbilisi airport. Transfer to Hotel.

DAY 2: TBILISI/SARAJISHVILI BRANDY FACTORY

City tour of Tbilisi with visits to the Old Town: Metekhi Temple, 12th c., the
“Abanotubani” – the baths area, Narikala, - The main fortress of Tbilisi. Visit Anchiskhati Church 6th c. Visit to Sarajishvili Brandy Factory and taste some of the best quality brandy.
After the tour we have sightseeing of Visit Rustaveli Avenue, the main street of
Tbilisi and Freedom Square. 

Overnight in Tbilisi.

DAY 3: SIGHNAGHI/TSINANDALI/KAKHAET/VAZISUBANI

Drive east to Kakheti.-the major supplier of best Georgian wines. Here we stay two nights and visit wineries
and wine cellars.First we visit Giuaani Winery in the village of Manavi. Arrive in Sighnaghi .Here we have wine tasting at the wine cellar of Pheasants Tears Winery. Continue  trip in Kakheti and
visit Vazisubani Estate for wine tasting. 
Overnight at Vazisubani.


DAY 4: KAKHETI PROVINCE
After breakfast we visit Tsinandali Estate, once the residence of the noble family of Chavchavadze of the 19th c. Then we visit a Kvevri-maker’s workshop to learn how the Kvevri (Qvevri) is made. We then have excursion to
Alaverdi Cathedral (11th c). We arrive at Jakeli Wines to taste organic wines. Finally we have wine testing at the Ruispiri Biodynamic Wines. Return to hotel. Evening at leisure.
Overnight at Vazisubani.


DAY 5: KAKHETI/TELAVI
After breakfast drive to  Telavi town. Visit Ikalto Monastery and Academy founded in the 11th c. We arrive at Orgo Teleda Winery for wine tasting. Finally we visit at Mosmieri Chateau & Winery. 
Drive back to Tbilisi. Arrive in Tbilisi. 
Overnight in Tbilisi.


DAY 6: ARMENIA border of Bagratashen or  fly to Yerevan from Tbilisi airport.(direct flight 25 min)

The tour starts with city tour of Yerevan city tour.Next visit to the legendary Armenian ARARAT brandy, which is one of the symbols of Armenia, an integral part of its historical and cultural heritage. Evening free. Possibility to discover some varieties of Armenian wines in wine bar.

DAY 7: VAYOTS DZOR PROVINCE/ARENI CAVE/NORAVANK MONASTERY/ARARAT PROVINCE

Drive to Vatots Dzor Province.Visit to Areni 1 Cave. Next stop at Noravank Monastery(9-14c), the masterpiece of master Momik. Visit to Trinity Winery established in 2009 in Aghavnadzor village close to Areni Cave. Next stop at Old Bridge winery. They started as a family business in 1998. Drive to Yerevan, on the way stop at Tushpa winery in Ararat Province. This winery is nestled below the Biblical Mt.Ararat .Their 6 hectares of vines are planted on 800 m above sea level. The soil is clay and consists of sedimentary rocks.

DAY 8: ARAGATSOTN PROVINCE/AMBERD
