An early morning drive will take you to Lake Sevan, the so-called “Blue Pearl” of Armenia. Take the stairs to the top of the Sevan peninsula to enjoy the breathtaking scenery before proceeding to Haghartsin monastery, located in the middle of the forest.

DAY 5:  Khor Virap – Areni-1 cave – Noravank

UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE TOUR

DAY 1: Arrival

DAY 2: City tour – Matenadaran – Genocide museum
Enjoy a walking city tour of Yerevan with a visit to the Matenadaran Institute of Ancient Manuscripts, one of the world's richest depositories of medieval manuscripts and books. Armenian letter art and its cultural expressions are inscribed in 2019 on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Finish the tour day by visiting the Genocide Memorial and Museum.

DAY 3:  Yerevan – Garni  & Geghard
After breakfast, embark on a journey to the cave monastery of Geghard (UNESCO World Heritage site) and the heathen temple of Garni. Discover how traditional Armenian flatbread Lavash, inscribed in 2014 on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, is made. Enjoy the beautiful sounds of Armenian Duduk, an ancient double-reed woodwind flute made of apricot wood. It is indigenous to Armenia, and was proclaimed a Masterpiece of the Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2005. 


DAY 4:  Yerevan – Sanahin – Haghpat
Journey to the monasteries of Haghpat and Sanahin, both listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. These two magnificent monastic complexes are among the most outstanding examples of Armenian ecclesiastic architecture and are important not only for the original architecture but also because of the tremendous influence they exerted on the overall development of Armenian art. 

DAY 5:  Lake Sevan – Noradouz
An early morning drive will take you to Lake Sevan, the so-called “Blue Pearl” of Armenia. Take the stairs to the top of the Sevan peninsula to enjoy the breathtaking scenery before proceeding to Noraduz, a medieval cemetery with a large number of early khachkars (cross-stones). Since 2010, khachkars, their symbolism, and craftsmanship are inscribed in the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

DAY 6:  Yerevan – Zvartnots – Etchmiadzin
Visit the ruins of Zvartnots temple, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2000, a three-tiered central-domed structure of astounding magnificence before continuing to your next stop - Etchmiadzin, the spiritual center of Armenia, the Armenian Vatican.

SILK ROAD

DAY 1: Arrival

DAY 2: City tour – History museum – Genocide museum
Enjoy a walking city tour of Yerevan with a visit to the History Museum of Armenia, which specializes in the fields of Archaeology, Numismatics, and Ethnography. Visit the Genocide Memorial and Museum before ending the tour of the day.

DAY 3: Etchmiadzin – Zvartnots – Sardarapat
Visit the ruins of Zvartnots temple, the UNESCO World Heritage site, before continuing to your next stop - Etchmiadzin, the spiritual center of Armenia, the Armenian Vatican. The next stop is the largest Ethnographic museum of Armenia – the Sardarapat Museum, which houses an incredible collection of national costumes, handmade carpets, old farming instruments, pottery, and furniture.


DAY 4: Khor Virap – Areni-1 cave – Noravank – Karahunj – Goris
Enjoy glorious views of Mount Ararat on your way to the medieval monastery of Khor Virap. Uncover the secrets of the 6.000 years old Areni-1 cave before proceeding to the unique Noravank monastery surrounded by red cliffs in the gorge of river Arpa. Visit Karahunj, also known as Zorats Stones (Armenian Stonehenge), an outstanding archaeological site believed to be an observatory established 7500 years ago.

DAY 5: Tatev – Khdzoresk – Selim Caravanserai – Lake Sevan
Visit the cave village of Khndzoresk. Later drive through the wild and romantic forests to the majestic monastery complex of Tatev. The monastic ensemble stands on the edge of a deep gorge of the Vorotan River. Make a stop at the Selim Caravanserai, built in 1332 by Prince Orbelyan Chesar, before proceeding to Lake Sevan, the so-called “Blue Pearl” of Armenia.

DAY 6: Sevan– Dilijan – Haghartsin – Haghpat
Early in the morning, take the stairs to the top of the Sevan peninsula to enjoy the breathtaking scenery before proceeding to Dilijan, where you’ll find yourself in an extremely different climate zone and landscapes fully covered with thick forests. Visit Haghartsin monastery, then journey to the monastery of Haghpat, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

DAY 7: Gyumri – Aruch caravanserai – Yerevan
Travel to Gyumri to explore the streets of the old town on foot to try to understand why, since ancient times, Gyumri has been considered the cultural capital of Armenia and the birthplace of arts and crafts. Visit the Aruch caravanserai, a 13th c. medieval inn located on the road connecting the former capitals of Armenia – the cities of Ani and Dvin. 

DAY 8: Yerevan – Garni & Geghard 
After breakfast, embark on a journey to the cave monastery of Geghard (UNESCO World Heritage site), partly carved out in a mountain and the only heathen temple in Armenia – Garni.

DAY 9: Amberd fortress – Saghmosavank – Hovhanavank 
A morning visit to the Amberd fortress and castle (10-13th cc), the familial estate of the Pahlavouni princes.
After a short stop at the Monument of Armenian letters (Armenian Alphabet) on Mt. Aragats, proceed to the Saghmosavank monastery. On the way back to Yerevan, visit the Hovhanavank monastery.

Uncover the secrets of the 6.000 years old Areni-1 cave before proceeding to the unique Noravank monastery surrounded by red cliffs in the gorge of river Arpa. Visit a family-run winery before proceeding to Jermuk, one of the most popular spa towns in Armenia with more than 40 thermal springs.


DAY 4: Khdzoresk – Tatev monastery – Goris
Visit the cave village of Khndzoresk. Later drive through the wild and romantic forests to the majestic monastery complex of Tatev. The monastic ensemble stands on the edge of a deep gorge of the Vorotan River. Embark on a journey to discover Goris.

Enjoy breathtaking views down into the canyon and to the strategically located Geghard Monastery below.

DAY 3: Classical Music – Echmiadzin & Zvartnots – Aram Khachaturyan Museum
Visit the ruins of Zvartnots temple before continuing to your next stop – Echmiadzin, the spiritual center of Armenia. Visit the museum of Aram Khachaturyan, one of the most renowned composers of the 20th century, best known for his ballet “Gayane”, as well as “Masquerade”, “Spartacus”, etc. Optional: Concert of Khachaturian trio in the museum.


DAY 4: Komitas, the living phenomenon – Khor Virap – Duduk Master Class – Komitas Museum & concert
Enjoy glorious views of Mount Ararat on your way to the medieval monastery of Khor Virap. Later pay a visit to a duduk master, who will present his creations. Proceed to the museum of the great composer and choirmaster, ethnographer, and pedagogue Komitas Vardapet. The museum offers a unique opportunity to enjoy a concert of Komitas Vardapet’s works, performed by a choir.

DAY 5: Anthology of Jazz – Sevan – Haghartsin – Jazz Club 
An early morning drive will take you to Lake Sevan, the so-called “Blue Pearl” of Armenia. Take the stairs to the top of the Sevan peninsula to enjoy the breathtaking scenery before proceeding to Haghartsin monastery, located in the middle of the forest. Return to Yerevan to enjoy dinner at one of the many jazz clubs.

DAY 6: Ode to life – A. Spendiaryan’s House-Museum – Gyumri 
Visit the House-Museum of Alexander Spendiaryan, founder of Armenian national symphonic music. Later travel to Gyumri to explore the streets of the old town on foot to try to understand why, since ancient times, Gyumri has been considered the cultural capital of Armenia and the birthplace of arts and crafts. 

DAY 7: Spiritual Music – Garni & Geghard – Concert of Spiritual Music – Vernissage 
In the morning, drive to Garni, the only surviving monument of the Hellenistic period in Armenia. Enjoy breathtaking views down the canyon and the strategically located Geghard Monastery below. Enjoy a concert of Spiritual music in Geghard Monastery. Visit Vernissage – an open-air souvenir market.
