Food and Wine tour

The earliest written account of viniculture is in the Old Testament of the Bible which tells us that Noah planted a vineyard when he descended on Ararat Mountains and made wine.

Day1 – Departure from.. Arrival in Yerevan.

Day2 – Yerevan, Brandy Factory “Ararat” City Tour

Arrival early in the morning. Transfer to hotel. Rest at hotel.
Tour starting at 11:00 .
Yerevan has been strategically important as a crossroads for the caravan routes passing between many countries. The modern city of Yerevan was built on the ruins of the ancient city in the beginning of 20th sanctuary, now rich of parks and modern squares in the center of the city.
Starting our tour with visiting the Matenadaran – depositary of ancient manuscripts regarding the philosophy, right, mathematic, medicine and geography, and this establishment is considered to be one of the world’s oldest. Here in Matenadaran are kept the oldest recipes of Armenian cuisine.
Lunch in a local typical restaurant –gourmet menu based on old recovered recipes.
Next visit to ,,Ararat,, Brandy factory, with degustation of three types of Cognac.
Free time.
Dinner in the restaurant with traditional cuisine and masterclass.
Overnight in Yerevan.

Day3 – Yerevan, Brandy Factory “NOY” Garni and Gaghard

Tour to Garni-pagan temple 1st c AD dedicated to the God of Sun, situated in a picturesque mountain locality. When Armenia adopted Christianity the temple became the summer residence of the kings of Armenia.
Next visit to Geghard –cave Monastery, the name ,,geghard,, derives from the relics of the Armenian Apostolic church: the spear that one of the Roman guards had used to pierce the rib of crucified Christ.
Lunch in the village of Garni, process of making Armenian Bread ,,Lavash,, in a rustic house with home made vodka.
Master class of ,,Lavash,,-Armenian bread and sujukh.
Return to Yerevan and visit to Brandy-Vodka Factory “NOY” with degustation of Brandy and old wine, visit to the cellars of the factory once being a part of Yerevan fortress.
Dinner in traditional gourmet restaurant.
Overnight in Yerevan.

Day4 – Yerevan, Khor Virap, Noravank ,Areni Cavern

Tour to the South of Armenia ,visiting Monastery of Khor Virap- a famous pilgrimage site, where Gregory the Illuminator ,who professed Christianity in Armenia spent 13 years in a jail.
From the monastery you can admire the Biblical Mt. ARARAT.
Visit Monastery of Noravank-one of the most splendid monuments of medieval Armenia, built in a location of significant natural beauty.
Next visit is to recently excavated very well preserved Copper Age settlement Bird’s Cavern uncovers the secret s of 6000 years old wine production in Armenia. The site boasts incredible items excavated in 2008-2010,among which is the world’s oldest shoe 5,500 years old. Explore the unique cavern’s ritual and burial halls.
Lunch in a restaurant in Noravank.
Return to Yerevan, folklore dinner .
Overnight in Yerevan.

Day5 – Yerevan, Echmiadzin ,,,Voskevaz,, winery

Tour to Echmiadzin Cathedral-Holy city, official residence of Catholicos ofArmenia.
The Cathedral was founded by Grigor Lusavorich in 301.
Stop at the ruins of Zvartnots Temple.
Drive to ,,Voskevaz,, winery, degustation and lunch .
Return to Yerevan and visit to ,,Parajanov,, Museum – famous film director and artist.
Gourmet dinner in Yerevan.
Visit to Vernissage -open air market of souvenirs and art works. Free time dinner and Overnight in Yerevan.

Day6 – Yerevan, Amberd Fortress and  ,,ArmAs,, winery

Drive to Amberd fortress and castle (10-13th cc) which was the familial estate of the Pahlavouni princes. It is one of the few feudal castles of Armenia that has been more or less preserved to our days. The location for its has been selected quite skillfully, the builders took advantage of the mountainous terrain and put the fortress on a cape surrounded on three sides by ravines.
Drive to the nearby village and take part at masterclass of traditional home made pasta ,,Rshta,, and traditional sweets.Lunch in a village.
Next stop is ,,ArmAs,, winery, tour of the winery with degustation of local wines.
Return to Yerevan. Visit to Vernissage -open air market of souvenirs and art works.
Dinner in a nice restaurant.
Overnight in Yerevan.

Day7 – Departure transfer to the airport.
