BIRDWATCHING Armenia -11 nights

Day1 – Depart from the coutry of origin to Yerevan

Day2 – Yerevan  – forests of Dilijan  – Sevan

We leave Yerevan and drive to Dilijan, where we will spend the rest of the day. After checking into our hotel in Sevan for a one night stay, we will spend the late afternoon in Dilijan National Park Here we can see: Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos), Lesser Spotted Eagle (Clanga pomarina), Booted Eagle (Hieraaetus pennatus),Coomon Buzzard (Buteo buteo), European Honey Buzzard (Pernis apivorus), Eurasian Sparrowhawk (Accipiter nisus), Great Spotted Woodpecker (Dendrocopos major), Middle Spotted Caucasian Woodpecker (Dendrocopos medius caucasicus), Eurasian nuthatch (Sitta europaea), Eurasian Treecreeper (Certhia familiaris), The red breasted nuthatch (Sitta canadensis), Semicollared Flycatcher (Ficedula semitorquata), Green Warbler (Phylloscopus nitidus), Eurasian Jay (Garrulus glandarius).
Drive back to Lake Sevan,Visit monastery Sevan(9thc).

Day3 – Sevan – Vardenyats/ Selim Pass – Noravank – Yeghegnadzor – Vayk

Today we will depart Lake Sevan and drive across the 2410m Selima Pass in the Vardenis Mountains to Vayk for a one night stay.
Today we will explore:
Acrocephalus warblers – Rousserolles, luscinioles et phragmites (Acrocephalus),Glossy Ibis – Ibis falcinelle (Plegadis falcinellus),Osprey – (Pandion haliaetus)
Little and Black necked Grebes – (Podiceps nigricollis)
Common Coot/Eurasian Coot – (Fulica atra),Common pochard – (Aythya ferina),Red-crested Pochard – (Netta rufina),Common Moorhen – (Gallinula chloropus),Common Black headed Gull – (Chroicocephalus ridibundus),Cetti’s Warbler – (Cettia cetti)
Discover monastery Noravank (9-14cc).

Day4 – Yeghegnadzor – Gorhayk– Karahoundj –  Tatev monastery  – Goris

Early morning departure from Yeghegnadzor to Syunik region, for observaton of Gorhayk area, which is Important Bird Area (IBA),Here we will see:
Ortolan Bunting (Emberiza hortulana),Ruddy Shelduck (Tadorna ferruginea),Common Rosefinch (Carpodacus erythrinus),Common Rock Thrush (Monticola saxatilis),Red‐backed Shrike (Lanius collurio),Lesser Spotted Eagle (Clanga pomarina),Short-toed Snake Eagle (Circaetus gallicus)
Long‐legged Buzzard (Buteo rufinus),Common Buzzard (Buteo buteo) Rock Sparrow (Petronia petronia), Common Linnets (Linaria cannabina) et Twites (Linaria flavirostris). Radde’s accentor (Prunella ocularis),Snowfinch (Luscinia svecica) ,White-winged snowfinch or just snowfinch (Montifringilla nivalis),Bluethroat (Luscinia svecica)
Way to Syunik region. Visit to Zorats karer named also KarahungeArmenian Stonehenge-the age of which has been estimated to be 7,500 years or perhaps older (sixth millennium BC).From Gorhayk to Zorats karer bird watching includes: Lesser-spotted Eagle (Clanga pomarina),Long-legged Buzzard (Buteo rufinus),Common Kestrel (Falco tinnunculus),Cuckoo (Cuculidae) ,Common rosefinch (Carpodacus erythrinus),Common stonechat (Saxicola torquatus),Whinchat (Saxicola rubetra)
Black-headed bunting (Emberiza melanocephala),et Red-backed shrike (Lanius collurio).
The next stop is majestic monastery complex of Tatev(10c) possible to reach via cable car.In this area we will explore Griffon Vulture, Egyptian vulture,Lesser spotted Eagle.

Day5 – Goris – Shikahogh  – Meghri

Early morning departure to National Park of Shikahogh.

Lesser Spotted Woodpecker (Dendrocopos minor),Middle Spotted Woodpecker (Dendrocopos medius),Hawfinch (Coccothraustes coccothraustes),Coal Tit (Periparus ater)
Green Warbler (Phylloscopus nitidus),Wren (Troglodytidae) Common chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs). Caspian tit – (Poecile hyrcanus).

Day6 – Meghri – Vayk

Visit Meghri for birdwatching : Levant Sparrowhawk (Accipiter brevipes),Sombre Tit (Poecile lugubris),Western Orphean Warbler (Sylvia hortensis),Menetries’s Warbler (Sylvia mystacea)
Eastern Rock Nuthatch (Sitta tephronota),Western Rock Nuthatch (Sitta neumayer)
Persian Wheatear or Red-tailed Wheatear (Oenanthe chrysopygia),Chukar Partridge (Alectoris chukar)
If we are luck enough we will watch Black Francolin (Francolinus francolinus).
Travel to Vayk,where possible to see Rosy Starling (Pastor roseus).

Day10 – Erevan – city tour – Matenadaran – History museum of Armenia

Yerevan: Yerevan once sat at the crossroads of several important trade caravans thus solidifying its importance in the region. Modern Yerevan was redesigned in the early part of the 20th century on top of the old city, creating a series of parks and squares that run through the city centre. The visit will start with the visit to the Matenadaran museum, which houses a unique collection of ancient manuscripts covering such lofty topics as philosophy, law, mathematics ,medicine an geography. Your tour will include a visit to one of the rrichest museums of Armenia-History Museum.
Finish your day wit visit to Gum Market for fruit and vegetable.
